Summer Camp 2015 | A&M Scotland
The 23rd July to the 24th saw A&M running it’s ever popular ‘Summer Camp’ at Petershill Leisure Centre in Springburn, Glasgow. Due to the massive demand at previous events, we also ran a second, smaller camp in Kingsway.
The ‘Summer Camp’ attracted around 250 young people over the two weeks with an average attendance of 130 young people each day at Petershill and a further 20 young people at the other camp in Kingsway. Young people were provided with free transport from all over Glasgow to attend the camp, including young people from Possilpark, Govanhill, Blackhill and Scotstoun.
The young people that attended were able to participate in completely free sport, centred around dance and football but including other activities such as tennis and badminton. There was also free Art and Crafts activities provided by New Rhythms for Glasgow. As well as providing completely free sport, A&M also provided a free lunch every day for all the young people that attended.
The two weeks were hugely successful and even included a visit from local MP Anne McLaughlin (pictured above). A&M would like to extend a massive thanks to the funders who made the camp possible; Comic Relief, Hugh Fraser Foundation and Clyde Cash for Kids.
A&M Scotland are looking to continue delivering free activity camps during the school holidays with the next camp set for the October School Week. With the rising cost of sport often a barrier to young people participating, A&M will continue to deliver completely free sport and physical activity to those young people who wish to take part.
