“An incredible and unbelievable experience, thanks Scotland”
We leave you here the words from Ana talking about her volunteering experience in Scotland. She was working with Achieve More Scotland participating in a youth led project from the 29th of June to the 20th of July of 2019. This project has been funded by the Erasmus+ programme. “An incredible and unbelievable experience, thanks Scotland” I describe myself as… A solidary person, empathetic and happy that takes care of her environment and her loved ones. I can’t live without… Art, animals, nature and cactus. Why did I decide to have
Our work to champion Erasmus+
Well what a campaign it was, thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to our daily case studies from young people, youth workers and local partners who have all benefited from Erasmus+ via our social media and thank you to those who caught our national coverage on the Nine News last Monday (we will showing this again next week, if you missed it). The last two weeks seen our message that no access to Erasmus+ will have a long term negative
Balance For Better #IWD2019
In aid of International Women’s Day 2019 we decided that we would let our young people speak up about what this year’s theme, Balance For Better means to them. Today you will see some pictures from some of the children and young people who use our services having their say on the gender balance they want to see for a better world. We believe that is not a gender specific issue but an issue of policy, government and business and
“Be the person you needed when you were younger!”
It’s our 10th year of operation working with young people? As with any milestone, it’s an opportunity to reflect, reflect on the journey, the successes, the failures, the young people and the future. Background to charity creation My own journey to the charity sector has been an interesting one. I’m the classic ‘Gamekeeper turned Poacher’; 22 years working in the Public Sector before moving into the Third Sector. I’ve been a Youth Worker for most of my adult life! I’ve seen fashions
#BlackHistoryMonth
On the 25th of September 2018, I had the pleasure to attend the launch of Black History Month. An event held in the Glasgow City Chambers and organised by a very talented woman Zandra Yeaman. This enlightening evening taught me many things about the slave trade I hadn’t thought about. At the beginning of the evening we were spoken to by several people, then after that we had the pleasure to hear music by a talented composer and a talented
I won The Scottish Social Innovation Award 2018 for the Collaborative Hub.
What a Friday it was finding out I was the winner of The Scottish Government’s Social Innovation Competition delivered by Firstport and awarded The Young Social innovator award 2018! The competition delivered by Firstport was a Scottish wide competition for people to pitch their social enterprise ideas that involve young people and aim to create social impact. On Friday I had the chance to eat miniature food and talk to a room full of social entrepreneurs from all over the
Autumn is here!
Autumn is full of exciting of activities at Achieve More! Here is an overview
Save our Youth Services
In recent years it has been made clear that many of the youth services offered to young people all over the UK have had to face major financial cuts leaving thousands of young people with nowhere to turn. An estimated £387m is believed to have been cut from youth services and it doesn't look like things are getting any better. Another study found that 603 youth clubs were shut down between the years of 2012 and 2016. This is not something
Tackling Holiday Hunger
“Glasgow 2018, holiday hunger is a real and sadly growing issue in this city. It beggars belief, doesn’t it? That in one of the richest countries in the world, any child should go hungry during the holidays. Holidays are meant to be fun, a time to play and explore and spend time with your pals, but for so many of our children and their families, poverty turns those weeks into a series of cruel choices. Even families entitled to free school meals do not
Stephanie and her Mum Jacqueline run 5k every day in December!
Stephanie has been a great supporter of Achieve More Scotland, after attending many of our events including our International women’s day event last year, our annual ball which is held in Grand Central Hotel and our Football legends match and dinner which was held in Torrance Hotel. Stephanie and her Mum Jacqueline came up with the challenge to do a 5k every day in December …. the busiest month of the year when most people just want to celebrate, and
