Men/ boys going on holiday may be when they feel the most self- conscious
During #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek we also wanted to focus in the struggles that males go through when it comes to their bodies and appearance. To do so, we have interviewed Ryan, one of our staff members. How body Image affects men? I think body image can affect men as a lot of can be self-conscious and lose confidence in themselves if they don’t feel comfortable with themselves. What can be done for men struggling with this? I think they should have someone to speak to and for
I have a lot of fear if there is no Erasmus+
Erasmus+ gave me the confidence to support young people when they experience transforming life experiences and develop their views on the world, and for that I have become a better youth worker who wants to dedicate his time to Glasgow communities.
A week to remember
The Rezzy Achieve more Scotland carried out their largest residential yet, this involved 21 young people being given the opportunity to take part in outward bound activities such as ; abseiling , hill walking , canoeing , team building activities and camping. During the 5 days, we went through many ups and downs, and found more activities challenging than others, but with each other at hand we encouraged all to keep pushing and conker our ‘chimp brain’. On the Thursday night
Society’s pressure to be perfect
Nowadays society's standards are set so high for young people to be "Perfect" and not the same as everyone around them. In my opinion, our environment is now beginning to turn toxic and people are turning on the people who have the guts to be different. In my opinion if you aren't the same as everyone else you are set aside and castaway and in some cases, bullied. This is because people in society especially young people, find it overwhelmingly hard
24/7 Social Media
Come morning or night what’s the first and last thing you do? I can bet 9/10 said check your phone. Whether it’s to switch the alarm off, check your calendar or have a quick snoop through Facebook. We don’t think much of it, gradually over time we have used our phones for more and more tasks each day meaning this addictive behaviour has gone unnoticed. This being the case we have set an example that our younger generation must live with
We need to talk about body image
Throughout previous years body image has become an increasingly bigger problem. Looking back as far as I can remember my generation grew up with celebrities plastered all over tv and magazines. This influence made it incredibly hard to appreciate your body when you think you look nothing like how your “supposed” to. Over the years social media has only got bigger and more common for young people to use. I can only imagine how much harder it is in this
Save our Youth Services
In recent years it has been made clear that many of the youth services offered to young people all over the UK have had to face major financial cuts leaving thousands of young people with nowhere to turn. An estimated £387m is believed to have been cut from youth services and it doesn't look like things are getting any better. Another study found that 603 youth clubs were shut down between the years of 2012 and 2016. This is not something
Tackling Holiday Hunger
“Glasgow 2018, holiday hunger is a real and sadly growing issue in this city. It beggars belief, doesn’t it? That in one of the richest countries in the world, any child should go hungry during the holidays. Holidays are meant to be fun, a time to play and explore and spend time with your pals, but for so many of our children and their families, poverty turns those weeks into a series of cruel choices. Even families entitled to free school meals do not
